Food in Films: Our Officially Unofficial List of the Best Foodie Movies

food in films

It will come as no surprise to many of you that I love films with an underlying food theme. Beyond what you see here among the pages of Today’s Nest, a large part of my daily life revolves around capturing images and video of food. For many of us, food is the common thread in our lives, intertwining between family and friends, holidays and events.

With the award season upon us, I thought it would be fitting to share with you my officially unofficial list of top foodie movies. Among these films you will find comedy, drama, and most of all… food.

There are many documentary food films to enjoy as well, but I have kept this list to those of a non-documentary class. They are in no particular order and all deserve a spot on the list for different reasons.

Big Night – Written, directed, and starring Stanley Tucci. The soundtrack is wonderful.

Chocolat – It’s chocolate… and French. Two of my favorite things.

Today’s Special – Super fun romantic comedy.

Toast – Beautifully shot “biography” of Nigel Slater. Full of emotion.

Soul Kitchen – German language film about trying to keep a dream alive. Great soundtrack.

Julie & Julia – Blogging and food. What’s not to love. I relate to this film in many ways.

Ratatouille – Animated food genius.

I Am Love – Very dramatic film starring Tilda Swinton.

Babette’s Feast – Older film, but very sweet story. The meal at the end of the film is worth the wait.

Honorable Mention:
Haute Cuisine
Eat Drink Man Woman
